Autism is a developmental brain disorder that typically affects development within the first 3 years of life. Symptoms are typically seen in the areas of communication, social interaction, behaviors, play or interests and can negatively impact a child’s ability to function in daily life and form meaningful relationships. Children diagnosed with ASD typically fall within a wide-ranging spectrum from mildly impaired to profoundly impaired. Autism services are typically for children, aged 2 to 21 who have been diagnosed with Autism.
The courses in this category are designed to increase provider understanding that can help improve client behaviors, like adaptive learning, social skills, and communication. The courses in this category provide information about autism spectrum disorder and information and resources to improve treatment knowledge and skills, such as decreasing unwanted behaviors and identifying other influences that may impact behavior and treatment.
Additional Considerations: The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 68 children have been identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
