This course serves as a non-certifiable PRE-REQUISITE. Completion of this online course does not qualify a person to be certified to implement the practice without additional training. In order to receive certification, one must complete a one day in person skills training through CMHAM/MDHHS. Completing this course allows a QMHP or CPSS to register for the one day in person FPE skills training.
- Three foundations of FPE: Biology, Expressed Emotion, Socialization
- Three stages of FPE: Joining, Workshop, Problem Solving Sessions
- How FPE can improve the recovery of people with Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and some other mood disorders with psychotic features by teaching natural supports to problem solve before life circumstances become a crisis.
- Utilizing the family guidelines to assist with lowering the expressed emotion in the household/relationships, creating more peace.
- Do you have adults on your caseload who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder? This is the gold standard EBP for them and their natural supports to improve problem solving skills, reduce hospitalizations, and increase community involvement.
- This Family Training approach brings family members into the recovery process in a new way! Practitioners across the state that have implemented this EBP have reported that it increases their satisfaction with their job and shows increased results within the families who commit to the treatment.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify and explain the three central ideas behind FPE
- Be able to explain how FPE can assist with the recovery of people with schizophrenia/thought disorders, mood disorders
- Be able to understand how FPE can assist with recovery of people with SUD, and chronic health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity
- Be able to explain the history of FPE as a treatment and how it fits into current treatment models
- Recognize the three stages of FPE: Joining
- Recognize the three stages of FPE: Workshop
- Recognize the three stages of FPE: Problem Solving
- Understand how to utilize the fidelity checklists that accompany the FPE model
- Be able to determine when to utilize the single family problem solving model or the multifamily problem solving model at their agency
- Be able to demonstrate the skill of creating an ecomap and a genogram within the scope of the FPE model.

Stephanie is a high energy professional with a wide range of clinical, supervisory, training, and consulting experience spanning over 25 years. She has a strong track record of working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, as well as independently, to propel organizations toward their vision. She worked for Macomb County Community Mental Health for 15 years where she implemented Evidence Based Practices, managed grant projects, taught Youth Mental Health First Aid, Seeking Safety/Trauma program implementation and sustainability, and more. Her longest position has been 24 years with Chippewa Valley Schools implementing At-Risk Youth programming.
