Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Recovery Incentives: Contingency Management Core Curriculum Session 1 (Nov - 5th, 9am-11am and Nov - 6th, 11am-1pm)
This course is designed for healthcare professionals, program administrators, and other SUD staff interested in implementing contingency management (CM) through Michigan’s RI Pilot Program. Participants will explore CM evidence, context, significance, and learn about Michigan’s CM program. The course will also outline required site staff and their roles, and provide a detailed roadmap for implementation, including available training resources. This is the first in a series of three core curriculum courses required before a site can launch services for beneficiaries.
- Introduction of Concept: The RI Pilot Program introduces contingency management (CM) as an effective method for improving treatment adherence and recovery for individuals living with substance use disorders (SUD). It aims to implement CM in select regions by providing tangible incentives to beneficiaries for negative urine drug tests.
- Program Overview: Launching in January 2026, the RI Pilot will run until December 31, 2026. The pilot will feature 24-week sessions of active CM services for beneficiaries during which time incentives will be earned for negative urine drug tests, using a reward system to encourage abstinence in the targeted substance. CM will complement existing treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder with goals to increase patient retention, reduce emergency department visits, and improve health outcomes.
- Implementation: Implementation steps include mandatory training for provider site staff on program details and incentive management, as well as engagement with a readiness review process to ensure compliance before the pilot launch.
