Behavioral Technician Training on Applied Behavioral Analysis Part 7: Other Conditions that May Impact Behavior and Treatment by Krista Kennedy, MS, LLP, BCBA are the seventh of a planned seven-part series providing Behavior Technician Training on Applied Behavioral Analysis to direct care workers. Part 7 explores other conditions that may impact behavior and treatment for example; family functioning, medical issues, and cognitive impairment. Additionally, participants will learn how to modify programs in order to address barriers to treatment. It will take approximately an hour to complete this course.
What other conditions impact behavior?
Participants of this course will learn what additional conditions may affect their clients' behavior outside of what has been previously covered including additional medical issues and cognitive impairments that afflict the clients.
As direct care workers, how do we leverage or remove those conditions?
The subject matter experts for this course will provide examples and discuss evidence-based best practices for using or treating these outside conditions the better treat your clients. Participants of this course should finish the course and have a working understanding of how those outside conditions impact behavior and how to best modify the programs to deal with those barriers to treatment.
Something as simple as a bath can be painful to some with cognitive impairements.

Krista Kennedy, MS, LLP, BCBA
Director of Behavioral Services
Krista Kennedy is the Director of Behavioral Services at Children's Hospital of Michigan Autism Center. Her work at the center involves the development and oversight of all the behavior programming and the behavioral services staff. Prior to her work at Children's Hospital, she worked in the field of autism for over 10 years with families and schools throughout the Metro Detroit area. Krista earned degrees in ABA and behavioral psychology from Eastern and Western Michigan Universities. She is enrolled in the Educational Psychology Department at Wayne State University as a PhD candidate. Krista has developed and instructed behavioral intervention and theory courses at Eastern Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. She also sits on a task force for Wayne County to develop a system of care for people with autism.
