This is a free training course intended for service providers in Michigan's public service agencies, including Community Mental Health Services Providers, Department of Health and Human Services, MI Choice Waiver Agents, Area Agencies on Aging, Special Education professionals, and anyone who serves individuals with a brain injury.
Traumatic Brain Injuries (Common Types, Frequency, and Severity)
This course covers the common types of traumatic brain injury in adults. This course will also provide participants with evidence-based research regarding the frequency and data surrounding the severity of these common traumatic brain injuries.
Cognition and Traumatic Brain Injuries
This course will provide the participants with research and data regarding the common cognitive issues many clients face following a traumatic brain injury. This section will also cover recommendations for treating these cognitive issues.
Psychological Effects of Traumatic Brain Injuries
Within this section of the course, participants will be provided with information regarding common emotional and behavioral problems following a traumatic brain injury. This course will also provide recommendations and treatment strategies for those clients that have developed behavioral health problems.

Kristen Votruba, PhD
Staff Neuropsychologist on the Inpatient Spinal Cord Injury Unit and the PM&R service at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan
Dr. Votruba, earned her PhD from Wayne State University in 2007 and completed her APA approved internship in Clinical Psychology at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System in Ann Arbor, MI. She completed a postdoctoral residency at the University of Michigan in the Neuropsychology Section of the Department of Psychiatry. She currently works as a staff neuropsychologist on the inpatient spinal cord injury unit and the PM&R service at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Votruba also completes neuropsychological evaluations in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she manages her own private practice. Dr. Votruba's research interests include the behavioral manifestations of traumatic brain injury and stroke as well as the assessment of executive functioning and complex activities of daily living in individuals with neuropsychological compromise.
