Understanding Occupational Safety
This course provides an overview of MiOSHA regulations for a variety of work environments and provides information regarding infection disease prevalence and the common type of pathogens and diseases various professionals may be exposed to.
Understanding the Chain of Infection and Prevention
This course provides the participants with scientific information regarding how infections start and can spread from one party to another. This section will also cover evidence-based best practices for preventing infection and the spread of bloodborne pathogens through proper safety and practice measures.
Emergency Situations and Safety Precautions
Participants of this course will learn how to react in emergency situations that involve infectious diseases or bloodborne pathogens. The course experts will also provide specific recommended safety precautions to avoid an emergency situation.
Carmen N. Hobson
BSN, CPN
Carmen N. Hobson, BSN, CPN graduated with a Baceurleate of Science in Nursing from Creighton University in 1996. She entered the United States Air Force Nurse Corp at Keesler Air Force Base (AFB), Mississippi following graduation for a total of 8 years. She completed the Nurse Transition Program and was assigned to an inpatient pediatric ward (3 years) and became nationally certified in pediatric nursing and pediatric oncology trained. Her extra duties were revamping the infection control policies and staff development orientation programs. Carmen transitioned from inpatient care to outpatient care for her remaining years on active duty. Throughout her military career she continued to assist and design staff educational programs to meet the Joint Commission standards. She quickly began to supervise paraprofessionals and administrative support staff within her clinics. After four years at Keesler AFB, Carmen did a one-year remote tour at Osan Air Base in South Korea. Her nursing skills were expanded to include biological and chemical warfare training, wartime medical triage, and war injury medical care during joint exercises with all armed forces on the Korean peninsula. Her last military assignment was at Ramstein AB, Germany. Carmen worked in an outpatient family practice clinic for one year and then transitioned into the pediatric clinic. During this assignment, she mentored new nurses to the clinics, case managed patients with high risk diseases and high-utilization and supervised paraprofessionals and administrative support staff. Carmen separated from the Air Force in 2004 and began her civilian career at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She worked on the pediatric and post-partum wards. She became a certified lactation consultant. Carmen actively participated in the development of the inpatient breastfeeding policies needed to assist staff. After two years of inpatient care, Carmen transitioned to the education department and began assisting the hospital with all general training courses needed to meet the Joint Commission standards. In 2008, her career was put on hold to raise her family. In 2017, Carmen began her Master of Science in nursing with an emphasis in education.
