This course covers basic ethics concepts, the purpose of a Code of Ethics, and a review of codes from various professions. It also covers the importance of confidentiality in family therapy and building professional boundaries in family therapy. This would be appropriate for NBCC, CMHP, QMHP.

Ethics in Behavioral Health Practice. 

The course has been developed to provide the participants with a working understanding of ethics in behavioral health practices. This course is designed to include examples of proper and improper uses of ethics and common pitfalls a direct care worker may face. 

Code of Ethics and Confidentiality. 

Participants of this course will be provided with information regarding confidentiality in behavioral health practice. This course will also discuss that different professions may have different codes of ethics. 

Dual Relationships, Transference and Countertransference. 

This course will provide definitions and examples of building dual relationships, experiencing transference and countertransference. 

 

Just because ethical issues may not reach legal claim does not mean that is where one should draw the line for ethical behavior. To do no harm, of any sort, is the goal as a therapist.

Pasquale Vignola

MA, LLP

Pasquale Vignola, MA, LLP is a limited licensed psychologist with more than twenty years of experience in community mental health, including work in children's home-based services, juvenile justice day treatment, and as the supervisor of a large children's outpatient program. He has supervised clinical internships for graduate students and has taught seminars on Ethics, Child Psychopathology, Retention-Focused Supervision, Workforce Development and the Child & Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS). Since October 2007, he has been working for the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority's Virtual Center of Excellence (VCE) at The Guidance Center (Southgate, MI), first as Curriculum Specialist, then Curriculum Supervisor, and since July 2013 as Manager. Since June 2007, Pasquale has additionally held an adjunct faculty position with Spring Arbor University (SAU) teaching in the Master's in Counseling, Master's in Family Studies, Bachelor's in Social Work, and Bachelor’s in Family Life Education programs. Courses he teaches at SAU include Research Design, Policy, Ethics, Psychological Assessment, and Human Sexuality.
