This training will provide information on the confidentiality requirements of 42 CFR Part Two: Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and their impact on substance use disorder providers.

Topics Covered

42 CFR Part Two and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

This course has been designed for those behavioral health professionals working with clients that are in treatment or recovery for their substance use disorders (SUD). This course will cover the confidentiality rules and regulations set forth by 42 CFR Part Two: Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records and HIPAA regulations in regards to this client community. 

Confidentiality in Treatment

This course will provide its participants with evidence-based research to help them develop a working understanding of how to ensure confidentiality for your substance use disorder clients. This course will focus on the specific regulations and tactics to ensure that you and your agency do not violate any of the 42 CFR Part Two or HIPAA regulations. 

Your Role in Confidentiality in Your Practice

As a behavioral health professional, the ownis of ensuring confidentiality may fall directly on your shoulders. This course will provide some additional tips and potential pitfalls specific to your role in ensuring that confidentiality with your clients. This will include a description of the possible consequences of violating the aforementioned confidentiality regulations.
