This supplemental training by Angela Griffin, LMSW will initiate a better understanding of the scope of suicide among our veteran population, as well as the dire importance of recognizing early signs and symptoms in order to prevent suicide by veterans. Also included in this training is Information detailing how to refer a veteran for care at our local Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital. This would be appropriate for QMHP.

Prevalence of Suicide in the Veteran Population

This course has been developed to provide behavioral health professionals, that are working with veteran clients, with the evidence-based research and data surrounding the prevalence of veteran suicide. This course will cover the historical data and the most up to date information on why this happens at such a high rate in the United States. 

Warning Signs, Symptoms and Interventions

This course provides practical information for those behavioral health professionals working with this cohort. In this course, the course expert will provide examples of early warning signs, symptoms, and offer potential intervention strategies that the participants may be able to use with their clients.

Angela Griffin

LMSW

Angela Griffin currently works for the Federal Government for the first ever Suicide Prevention Program for the Department Of Veterans Affairs, as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator. She has a diverse background in child and family services for the State of Michigan Department of Human Services (formerly known as FIA (Family Independence Agency). She worked as a Protective Services Worker, Family Independence Specialist, Foster Care Clinical Case Management and Licensing Department. She also worked at Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital as a Clinical Social Worker specializing in group and individual psychotherapy for Incompetent To Stand Trial and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity chronically mentally ill criminals/individuals providing treatment and discharge planning and readjustment into the community.
