Definition:

The Dual Diagnosis Capability in Addiction Treatment (DDCAT) index was created in 2003, and initially field tested, with further development, implementation and psychometric study occurring since 2004.

The DDCAT, based on the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) taxonomy of program dual diagnosis capability, is a parallel instrument to the Dual Diagnosis Capability in Mental Health Treatment (DDCMHT) index. The DDCAT guides both programs and system authorities in assessing and developing the dual diagnosis capacity of addiction treatment services.
