Definition:

Nodding Out is a slang term for the early stages of depressant-induced sleep. Opiates and sedative-hypnotic induced depression of the central nervous system, causing mental and behavioral activity to become sluggish. As the nervous system becomes profoundly depressed, symptoms may range from sleepiness to coma and death. Typically, “nodding out” refers to fading in and out of a sleepy state.
