Sobriety is defined as the state of being sober.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) defines it as abstinence. There is a debate among the psychological community that being sober simply means "not intoxicated" as opposed to abstinent. Typically, addicts will use the term "clean" to describe the the amount of time they have abstained from use.
