Definition:

Substance Abuse Treatment is a form treatment intended to help addicts and alcoholics stop compulsive drug and alcohol abuse. It can occur in a variety of settings, take many different forms, and last for different periods of time. Addiction or substance use disorder is typically a chronic disorder characterized by occasional relapses. As a result of this, a short-term, one-time treatment is usually not sufficient for long-term recovery. For many, treatment is a ongoing process that involves multiple interventions and regular monitoring. These services are usually available by a licensed professional or in a residential addiction treatment program.
