Understanding Pediatric and Childhood Sleep Problems

This course provides information regarding the prevalence of childhood and pediatric sleep disorders in children that may be afflicted with behavioral health disorders like Autism. The course expert provides meaningful research to shows how common these sleep disorders are and how damaging they can be to development. 

Impacts of Sleep Disorders and Intervening

This course provides specific examples of the negative impact sleep disorders can have on children with and without behavioral health disorders. This course also provides intervention techniques for those families of children that are unable to sleep through the night. 

Sleep Schedule & Circadian Rhythm Disorders

The final section of this course provides specific information regarding CRD and sleep schedule issues and the impact that these may have on pediatric and youth clients. 

Dr. Brett Kuhn

Dr. Brett Kuhn is a licensed psychologist and associate professor in pediatrics and psychology at the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation and University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Kuhn is certified in behavioral sleep medicine by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He served on the AASM-sponsored committee to create the national standards of practice for children with bedtime resistance and nighttime awakenings.

Dr. Kuhn is director of behavioral sleep medicine services at the Children’s Sleep Disorders Center in Omaha, where he supervises medical residents, sleep fellows and psychology interns in the assessment and treatment of pediatric sleep disorders. He has published a number of professional articles and book chapters on the topics of children’s behavioral health issues. Dr. Kuhn co-edited the recently published book, Behavioral Treatments for Sleep Disorders: A Comprehensive Primer of Behavioral Sleep Medicine Interventions. He also co-authored a popular press book titled The Toddler Owner’s Manual: Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice on System Maintenance.
